A Paddle Dryer is an indirect contact drying system, with a design that is adequate for efficient and controlled drying of wet cakes, powders, pastes, slurries or other moisture-containing materials. Heat is transferred to the product without any direct contact between the product and the combustion gases, using a heated jacket, hollow shafts and hollow paddles.
Uniform and efficient heat transfer to the jacket, shafts and paddles is achieved by circulating the heating medium, which may be steam or thermal fluid/hot oil. The rotating paddles move the material continuously, ensuring uniform exposure to the heated surfaces and optimal moisture removal.
The Geo Drytech Paddle Drier is designed for safe and dependable drying applications in the pharmaceutical, chemical, food, agrochemical and speciality chemical sectors. The system can be adapted to the characteristics of the product, capacity, heating demand, operating temperature and process conditions.

The Paddle Dryer has an indirect heating system in which steam or thermal fluid is circulated through the heated jacket, hollow shafts, and paddles. This allows for controlled heat transfer without direct contact with the product and combustion gases.
The drying product is continuously lifted, mixed and moved through the drying chamber by the rotary paddles. This allows the products to be circulated and provides uniform exposure to the heated surfaces, thus drying the products uniformly.
The large heat transfer surface area created by the hollow paddles and heated jacket allows a large amount of heat to be transferred within the dryer. This helps to transfer the heat to the product efficiently and promotes proper moisture removal.
Paddle Dryers are excellent for processing Wet Cakes, Sludges, Pastes, Powders, Granules and other high-solids-content materials. The mechanical mixing action is good for products that are cohesive and can be dried.
The majority of drying occurs by indirect transfer of heat and the Paddle Dryer consumes less drying gas than other direct contact dryers. This can minimise exhaust volume and can make vapour-handling requirements easier.
In operation, the enclosed drying chamber contributes to the containment of product, dust and moisture as well as vapours. The stainless steel structure and appropriate surface finishes can also be achieved for pharmaceutical, food and hygiene-related applications.
This continual transfer of product, along with the controlled heating, helps to ensure efficient evaporation of moisture and appropriate solvents. The dryer can also be designed to be coupled with condensers, receivers or vacuum systems for vapour handling and recovery.
Geo Drytech Paddle Dryers are designed and customised based on the characteristics of the materials, production capacity, heating requirements, moisture content, operating conditions and plant layout. Solid build ensures effective operation under demanding industrial conditions.
It is used to dry chemicals, inorganic salts, catalysts, pigments, intermediates, starch derivatives and other chemicals containing moisture.
Ideal for drying pharmaceutical intermediates, APIs, powders, wet cakes and other products which demand controlled processing and hygienic construction.
Drying of speciality petrochemical materials, petrochemical by-products of refineries and other solid materials produced in petrochemical processing.
Ideal for drying polymer resins, polymer granules (plastics), additives and PP, PET, PTA, PC, etc specialty polymer.
Food dryer suitable for drying food powders, beverage ingredients, starch products, protein materials, biomass and other food or nutraceutical products, used for drying.
Appropriate for drying mineral concentrates, metal powders, carbonates, sulfates, hydroxides and other inorganic materials.
For pesticide drying, agrochemical intermediates, fertilizers and other agricultural chemical products that need moisture control during drying.
Paddle Dryers are suitable for drying industrial sludge, ETP sludge, filter cakes, slurries and selected waste materials to lower the moisture content for the ease of handling or disposing of the material.
Paddle Dryers can be used for drying inorganic salts, catalysts, chemical intermediates, pigments, starch derivatives and speciality chemicals. The enclosed chamber and indirect heating system ensure that the temperature is kept constant, which is suitable for products that need to be treated consistently in the thermal treatment aspect.
Paddle Dryers are suitable for pharmaceutical applications such as API intermediates, wet filter cakes, crystalline and other solid formulations. For applications that demand high cleanliness standards, stainless steel construction, appropriate surface finishes and process-specific configurations can be included.
Paddle Dryers can be used with polymer resins, plastic granules, PP, PET, PTA, PC, PPS and other polymer-based materials. The paddle action will help the product move and may help to get the desired residual moisture prior to extrusion, compounding, storage or other processing.
Paddle Dryers can dry starch, flour-based, protein ingredients, beverage powders, plant-based products and nutraceutical products for suitable food-grade applications. The hygienic construction and suitable temperature control ensure the processing requirements of sensitive food and nutritional materials.
Paddle Dryers can be used for the production of pesticides, insecticides, fertilizers, agrochemical intermediates and agricultural formulations. The system is a very effective, practical solution for drying products before milling, blending, formulation or packaging.
Paddle Dryers are designed for drying mineral concentrate, metal powder, carbonate, sulphates, hydroxides and inorganic compounds in mineral processing. They are tough, robust and can handle mechanical products, which makes them ideal for abrasive and high solids industrial materials.
Paddle Dryers are an enclosed system for drying ETP sludge, industrial sludge, filter cakes and limited process waste. A decrease in water content can enhance handling properties of the material, and contribute to easier subsequent disposal, recovery, or treatment operations.
Paddle Dryers can be used to process selected biomass, plant residues, fibres and organic solids before storage, briquetting, combustion, extraction or other downstream process. The constant movement of the paddle helps to manage fibrous and irregular feed materials in the drying chamber.
If the product involves suitable chemical and pharmaceutical products containing solvents, then Paddle Dryers can be used in conjunction with a vacuum system, condensers and receivers. This can enable controlled evaporation of the solvent and recovery of useful solvents in a closed process system.
The heated product gets thermal energy directly through the heated paddles, shafts and jacket without being in contact with combustion gases. This makes the Paddle Dryer suitable for processes where control of heating and cleanliness of product is important.
The hollow paddle design provides a large heated surface in the drying chamber. This design enables the equipment to heat transfer efficiently even with high-solids, high-density or difficult-to-flow material.
During operation, the paddle assembly continually lifts, turns and redistributes material. This reduces the number of stagnant zones and ensures an even exposure of the product to the available heat-transfer surfaces.
The Paddle Dryer is a dryer that does not depend on the major transfer of energy by the large quantity of heated air as in the direct hot-air dryers. This can help to lower exhaust-gas volume and facilitate downstream vapour/dust handling.
The mechanical action of the paddles ensures the dryer can be used for sticky, cohesive, pasty and high solids materials that may be difficult to process in other drying equipment. The system can be designed to meet the flow and product handling requirements.
Surfaces for heat transfer are contained in both the paddles and the machine, so that a comparatively small machine can have a very high heat-transfer capacity. This can be beneficial if production levels must match up with available plant space.
The closed construction means that the drying process material stays in the drying unit during the drying process and helps to keep the dust and vapours from entering the surrounding area. The system may also be coupled with condensers, scrubbers, filters or vacuum equipment if necessary.
The Geo Drytech Paddle Dryers can be fitted with various paddle shapes, heating systems, materials of construction, discharge mechanisms, drive systems and instrumentation. This enables the dryer to be tailored to the characteristics of the product and production specifications.
